Did the Jewish people ever celebrate any Shemita at all? Because I only hear what the Shemita means and how a leap of faith it was, but being such a clear miracle to provide for three years for the agricultural people that if that happened will be enough proof of the Provision of Hashem. Why then ever stop.? Reply

Good summary,of the Parsha, but I am missing the presence of G-d in the summary.
He freed us from Egypt and gave us the land, on which to live His teachings.We are His servants. His constant presence in our lives, in Israel and the exile ,are at the core of Jewish existence.

Leah from Texas answer 2 Also, Leah, if someone is buying a field, even if it is only 2 weeks till Yovel (Jubilee), he can still benefit from those few weeks because he can take his animals to graze there, or he can hold a party there, but he is allowed to reduce his offer for the field depending on how long is left till Yovel.

Leah From Texas The land itself belongs to Hashem and not man. The original land was allocated by Hashem to the particular tribes of Israel and its individual family members through Yehoshua. Man is allowed only to reap its produce. The original land owner must pay the present renter for any costs he lost from the original contract amount. It is only the produce from the crop that is really being bought and sold by the two people who contracted the sale. He may also allow him to continue to lease the field if he so desires. Reply

i have always wondered about this and i just dont understand how it is "just" to take land away from someone who spent their hard earned savings to purchase it and freely give it back to someone who was already compensated for it. this leaves the buyer homeless and the seller compensated for something they still have. why would anyone ever buy land if they know its going to be stripped from them? Reply

Behar Apart from grain production, how would you obey the 'Behar' requirements if you are in fruit production (orchard mgt.) or lifestock production, or sheepfarming?

Behar Everything in the world has to have a rest and recuperate. This includes the land and humans. That is why Sabbath exists. Reply

who are? who are the original owners? do you mean G-d doesnt believe in social justice and spreading the wealth around for all to share? what a revelation and that i can finally go back to my original property as i am tired of renting and/or giving away the farm to the collective. only in Israel could this be done and praise G-d for that. for the world needs a role model these days.
